Obua Urges Iganga NRM Youths to Spearhead Wealth Creation Projects
Accompanied by Hon. Kauma Sauda, the Woman Member of Parliament for Iganga District, Hon. Obua commended the Equal Opportunities Commission for organizing the program, which he described as a strategic platform to groom and energize young political leaders with the NRM ideology and practical tools for grassroots mobilization.

Iganga, Uganda – Government Chief Whip and Ajuri County MP, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, has called on National Resistance Movement (NRM) youth leaders to take center stage in the campaign for wealth creation, economic empowerment, and the promotion of government programs.
Addressing participants at the NRM Youth Leadership Mentorship Program held at Ntinda Resort Hotel in Iganga Municipality on Sunday, June 29, 2025, Hon. Obua emphasized that the youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow but must actively shape Uganda’s economic and political trajectory today.
Youth as Catalysts for Prosperity
In his keynote address, Obua reminded the young leaders that their primary duty is to promote and defend the NRM’s core values—patriotism, nationalism, pan-Africanism, and socio-economic transformation.
“As NRM youth leaders, your duty is to guide members to stand with the party, practice the NRM ideology, and walk the message of the party to the public,” Obua stressed.
He urged the youth to be visible and impactful agents in their communities by actively participating in government programs and encouraging others to do the same. He described the youth as the "engine room" of Uganda’s demographic structure and emphasized that no government could afford to ignore such a vital segment of society.
“You must lead people to prosperity and development. No government can ignore the youths because you are the majority,” he declared.
Championing PDM and EMYOOGA
Highlighting the importance of Uganda’s flagship poverty alleviation programs—the Parish Development Model (PDM) and EMYOOGA—Obua called on youth leaders to lead from the front by educating, mobilizing, and connecting their communities to these initiatives.
“You may not be a direct beneficiary of PDM, but mobilize those under your leadership to benefit. People across the country are giving testimonies,” he noted.
The PDM is designed to move 39% of households from the subsistence economy into the money economy, while the EMYOOGA initiative provides seed capital to organized groups engaged in specialized enterprises such as welding, tailoring, and boda boda transport.
Hon. Obua also warned against youth passivity, stating that the youth must be active players in the transformation agenda, and not mere spectators. He encouraged the leaders to reach out to parish chiefs, SACCO leaders, and community development officers to understand and monitor implementation.
President Museveni's Wealth Creation Agenda
Obua reaffirmed that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s main focus at this stage of his leadership is improving household incomes and enhancing wealth creation among Ugandan families.
“I can assure you that the President’s preoccupation now is wealth creation and household income,” Obua emphasized.
He further explained that wealth creation was not about politics alone, but about transforming lives through skills development, enterprise, value addition, and smart agriculture.
Building a New Generation of Mobilizers
The mentorship program drew NRM youth leaders from Iganga District and surrounding areas, many of whom welcomed the opportunity to engage directly with senior party leaders. The interactive sessions included modules on ideological clarity, community engagement, and strategies for increasing youth participation in government programs.
Hon. Kauma Sauda encouraged her fellow youth leaders to be change agents, adding that women and youth must work together to demand and drive service delivery at the local level.
“As young leaders, you must bridge the gap between government and the people. Be present, be bold, and be informed,” she said.
The event ended with a renewed commitment by participants to champion the NRM development agenda in their respective parishes and constituencies, with Hon. Obua pledging continued support from the Government Chief Whip’s Office for youth-led mobilization efforts.
