A New Chapter for Uganda Table Tennis: Cyrus Muwanga Mark Leads Fresh Leadership Team as Robert Jjagwe Bows Out After 12 Transformative Years
New UTTA Administration

In a historic transition for Ugandan sports, the Uganda Table Tennis Federation (UTTF) has ushered in a new leadership team, marking the end of an era under the stewardship of outgoing president Robert Jjagwe, who has guided the sport through 12 years of remarkable growth and transformation.

The Elective General Assembly held on 29th June 2025 saw the smooth and transparent handover of leadership to a dynamic new team comprising:

President: Cyrus Muwanga Mark

Secretary General: Rukundo Joseph Ronald

Treasurer: Brian Ssenyonga Charles

The assembly was not just a procedural formality—it was a milestone event that reaffirmed UTTF’s full compliance with the New National Sports Act and Statutory Instruments. A total of 88 Districts were represented, far surpassing the required 50% participation threshold, underscoring the Federation’s grassroots reach and national relevance.

As he handed over the mantle, Robert Jjagwe expressed deep satisfaction with the state of the sport, describing the new team as “a very good team that will take Table Tennis to higher levels than I have managed.” He noted:

“I am very happy to have served the Table Tennis Sport for the past 12 years, and I feel proud to hand over a vibrant and good Federation with so many positives happening in the sport at the moment.”

Under his leadership, the UTTF has:

Expanded its presence to all 112 districts across Uganda, fulfilling the statutory requirement to transition from an association to a fully-fledged federation.

Purchased and distributed equipment to new districts, ensuring grassroots penetration and widespread engagement in the sport.

Compiled a robust, evidence-backed verification dossier (with photos, club/school names, Games Master contacts) to aid the National Council of Sports (NCS) in verifying district-level activity.

Maintained financial integrity and institutional transparency through proper documentation and timely audit reporting.

These achievements set a firm foundation for the incoming team to build upon.

True to his self-proclaimed title of “Certified Bush Lawyer,” Jjagwe ensured that the Federation adhered to every legal and procedural requirement. The detailed registration process at the General Assembly included:

District name and representative

Copy of their National ID (showing the district of origin)

Name and signature—guaranteeing indisputable proof of participation

This meticulous process was praised for its transparency and thoroughness—setting a standard for other federations seeking full compliance.

While stepping down from the helm, Jjagwe will continue to support the Federation in an advisory role as Honorary President of UTTF, helping with transitional tasks such as:

Official communication to bodies like NCS, ITTF, UOC, and CTTF

Submission of audited books of accounts

Providing historical and legal guidance when needed

He called upon all stakeholders, fans, and partners to rally behind the new team, praying that they “take Table Tennis to even much greater heights.”

“I now assume the role of Honorary UTTF President… I invite all Table Tennis stakeholders to fully respect and work amicably with the New President and his Team to see Table Tennis scale new and even better heights.”

Newly elected UTTF President Cyrus Muwanga Mark inherits not just a functioning organization, but a thriving movement. With a nationwide structure now in place, the focus will likely shift to:

Talent identification and development at the grassroots

Enhanced national and regional competitions International representation and partnerships

Modernizing coaching and umpiring standards

The new Secretary General, Rukundo Joseph Ronald, and Treasurer, Brian Ssenyonga Charles, are expected to bring youthful energy and innovation into the Federation’s operations, ushering in a digital, data-driven, and player-centered approach to sports governance.

The Uganda Table Tennis Federation has entered a promising new era, built on the solid foundation laid by Robert Jjagwe and his team. With legal compliance achieved, institutional credibility enhanced, and national presence secured, the sport is poised for exponential growth.

As Uganda pushes forward in the global sporting arena, Table Tennis stands tall—with new leadership, a united fraternity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

May the paddle keep swinging and the momentum never slow down.
