In a major development for Ugandan football, Kasozi Deo Akiiki has officially stepped down as President of Kitara Football Club, ending a game-changing leadership chapter that began on 16th June 2022. His departure marks a pivotal moment for the club that only recently tasted historic success under his guidance.

A Presidency That Reshaped Kitara FC

Kasozi’s era at Kitara FC has been widely regarded as one of transformation, professionalism, and ambition. Taking the reins in mid-2022, he inherited a club with promise and community passion — and turned it into a national football powerhouse.

During his presidency:

He invested over UGX 2 billion, strengthening the club's structure and operations.

He spearheaded the recruitment of elite players, most notably Denis Omedi, who was named 2024 FUFA Premier League MVP before securing a lucrative transfer to APR FC in Rwanda.

He laid the groundwork for sustainable infrastructure by identifying land for Kitara FC’s permanent home at Royals Park, Butema, Hoima District — a major milestone for a club founded as a community team in 2010.

Glory Achieved:

FUFA Stanbic Uganda Cup 2024

Kasozi's most celebrated achievement came in 2024, when Kitara FC lifted their first-ever major silverware — the FUFA Stanbic Uganda Cup. The victory not only ignited jubilation across Hoima and the Bunyoro sub-region but also earned the club a historic ticket to represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup 2024/25 season.

This triumph confirmed Kitara FC’s arrival on the big stage and underscored Kasozi’s vision of turning a modest club into a nationally respected football brand.

New Leadership: Nyaika Gilbert Steps In

Following the official announcement of Kasozi’s resignation, Kitara FC has swiftly appointed Nyaika Gilbert as the Interim President, with immediate effect. Nyaika, a familiar figure within the club’s administrative circles, is expected to guide the Royals through a crucial transitional period that includes CAF competition preparations and further professionalization of club operations.

“Kasozi’s leadership changed the trajectory of Kitara FC forever. His legacy will be remembered not only in trophies but in vision, infrastructure, and the professionalism he brought to our beloved club,” said a club insider.

As the club looks to solidify its domestic dominance and establish its presence on the continental stage, all eyes will be on the new leadership’s next moves. Player reinforcements, technical adjustments, and CAF compliance measures are all expected to be high on the agenda.

Fans, partners, and stakeholders have expressed gratitude to Kasozi for his selfless service, while also bracing for a new chapter filled with both excitement and uncertainty.
