The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has officially released a comprehensive roadmap and briefing ahead of the nomination of candidates for the 2025 Parliamentary and Local Government Council elections.

The press briefing, delivered by Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, highlights key stages, participation statistics, nomination procedures, and guidelines for upcoming internal party electoral activities.

a) Over 2,700 Aspirants Express Interest in NRM Tickets

The recently concluded process of expressing interest and picking of nomination forms witnessed overwhelming enthusiasm from party faithful across the country. A total of 2,718 aspirants showed interest in representing the NRM at various elective positions:

This strong turnout is a testament to the internal democratic vibrancy within the NRM party and signals a highly competitive and participatory primary election season.

b) Nominations Scheduled: 17th – 30th June 2025

The nomination exercise for Parliamentary and Local Government Council positions will commence on 17th June and run through 30th June 2025. The process is structured to ensure efficiency, transparency, and order, with designated venues based on the nature of the elective position.

Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Weekends and Public Holidays: Closed

Nomination Steps at Headquarters: 

Step 1:

Registration at the security desk for the aspirant and their nominator and seconder. 

Step 2:

Submission of completed forms and required documents at Tent 1, categorized by sub-region.

Step 3:

Legal vetting of documents at Tent 2.

Step 4:

Official nomination confirmation at Tent 3.

Important Reminders:

The nomination process is free of charge.

Candidates are advised not to engage middlemen and must avoid proxy submissions.

Only those officially tagged as NRM officials should be approached for assistance.

c) Nominations for Central Executive Committee and Special Organ Executives

In a parallel move to prepare for leadership at the top party organs, the NRM Electoral Commission has also announced a call for expressions of interest for Central Executive Committee (CEC) positions and Executives of Special Organs at the national level.

Period: 26th June – 1st July 2025

Venue: NRM EC HQ, Plot 13 Kyadondo Road

Time: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Weekdays only)

Eligibility Criteria:

Must be a Ugandan aged 18 or above.

Registered member of the NRM.

Listed in the National Voters Register.

Must demonstrate proven integrity and a clean public record for at least 10 years.

Prior service and contribution to NRM structures.

Payment of a non-refundable expression of interest fee, as outlined in the party’s regulations.

d) SIG Primaries at Parish Level: June 20, 2025

The Commission also reminded stakeholders of the Special Interest Group (SIG) Committees’ Primaries at Parish level, set to be held on 20th June 2025. These elections will be conducted at Parish Headquarters and overseen by the NRM Parish Registrars.

Eligibility is strictly limited to individuals who won the SIG Committee elections at the village level under the NRM ticket. The election will be a college-based process, meaning only those previously elected at the village level will vote or be voted for.
