National ID Production Enhanced with High-Tech Printing Machines
The newly acquired machines are expected to significantly reduce the turnaround time for national ID processing. With the ability to handle large volumes of cards within a short period, the machines will alleviate the backlog that has often plagued the system, ensuring that applicants receive their national IDs much faster than before.
In a significant milestone for Uganda’s National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), the institution has received four high-tech card printing machines, each capable of producing up to 3,000 national IDs per hour. This acquisition marks a transformative step towards improving efficiency in national ID issuance, addressing long-standing challenges in service delivery, and reinforcing NIRA’s commitment to providing timely and reliable identification services to all Ugandans.

NIRA has been actively preparing for the upcoming mass registration exercise by bolstering its operational capacity. The recent delivery of over 5,000 registration kits has played a crucial role in enhancing technical training for all client-facing staff. Registration Assistants and Registration Officers have undergone comprehensive training to ensure they are well-equipped to handle the increased workload efficiently.
To guarantee the highest level of competence, NIRA has introduced exit tests for trainees. These tests assess the readiness of the personnel, ensuring that only the most dependable and skilled individuals are deployed for the exercise. This approach is expected to enhance service delivery and minimize errors that may arise during the registration process.
