Okwere, a well-known advocate for peace and community development, joins a growing list of aspirants seeking to represent their people under the NRM ticket. His decision to contest follows the launch of the NRM’s expression of interest process — a key phase in the party's roadmap toward selecting official flag bearers for parliamentary seats, local government positions, and city mayorships.

As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) gears up for the 2026 general elections, Beecham Okwere David has officially declared his intent to run for Member of Parliament for Bukedea Constituency by picking nomination forms from the party’s Electoral Commission headquarters in Kyadondo.
“I am stepping forward not just to represent Bukedea, but to lead it into a future of unity, peace, and sustainable development,” said Beecham shortly after picking his forms. “My commitment is to be a servant leader who listens, consults, and acts in the best interest of our people.”
The party’s Electoral Commission, led by Dr. Tanga Odoi, launched the expression of interest process earlier on Monday 2nd June 2025, inviting all eligible and interested members to pick nomination forms for various elective positions. The process will run until June 15, 2025, with official nominations slated for June 17, 2025. “
Any member vying for a parliamentary seat must pay a non-refundable fee of three million shillings,” Dr. Odoi announced during a press briefing, confirming that the process has commenced smoothly and nationwide participation is underway.
The positions covered under this exercise include:
Members of Parliament (MPs)
Local Council V (LCV) Chairpersons
City and Municipal Mayors
District Councillors
Beecham Okwere David’s entry into the political race is fueled by a passion for peacebuilding and rural transformation. Having worked extensively with communities in Bukedea on conflict resolution and youth empowerment, Beecham believes that lasting peace is the foundation for development.
He pledges to:
Advocate for improved infrastructure and social services in Bukedea
Promote youth skilling and employment
Enhance agricultural productivity through modern methods and support systems
Ensure equitable access to education and healthcare
“I believe that politics should be a platform for transformation, not division. We must invest in our people and ensure every voice counts in the decision-making process,” Beecham emphasized.
As Beecham embarks on his political journey, he is expected to fulfill the four major constitutional roles of a Member of Parliament (MP), should he be elected:
Legislation: Participate in the debate and passage of laws that guide Uganda’s development.
Representation: Serve as the voice of Bukedea Constituents in Parliament, ensuring their issues are brought before relevant Ministries and national bodies.
Budget Approval: Review and approve the national budget, including proposed loans and financial allocations.
Oversight: Monitor the implementation of government programs, ensuring transparency, accountability, and the protection of public resources.
As the political season intensifies, Beecham calls on his fellow Bukedea residents and party members to uphold peace and unity. He emphasizes that the journey to 2026 must be one of constructive dialogue, not hostility.
“We can differ in opinion, but we must never differ in our commitment to peace and progress,” he said.
With the expression of interest process now underway, political momentum is steadily building within the NRM. Beecham Okwere David’s declaration marks a significant moment for Bukedea as the constituency begins to evaluate who will best represent its hopes and aspirations in the 12th Parliament of Uganda.
