The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has officially nominated Hon. Richard Wanda to contest for the Bungokho Central parliamentary seat in Mbale District, as part of the ongoing nationwide nomination process for the ruling party’s internal elections slated for July 16, 2025.
The nomination was presided over by NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, who emphasized the party’s commitment to a transparent and fair primary process. The exercise marks a key milestone in the NRM’s roadmap toward consolidating political leadership at both parliamentary and local government levels ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Hon. Wanda, who is seeking re-election for a second term, expressed confidence in his campaign, stating, “I’m not scared of my opponents.” He cited several accomplishments during his first term in office, highlighting service delivery, infrastructure development, and education support as hallmarks of his leadership.
“During my term, I successfully lobbied for an ambulance for our people, which was delivered by the Ministry of Health. Many of our roads have been rehabilitated, and numerous students have benefitted from bursaries that I facilitated,” he noted.
As he seeks to retain his seat, Hon. Wanda reaffirmed his commitment to the four primary roles of a Member of Parliament, which he pledged to continue executing diligently:
Legislation – Participating in debates and passing laws to guide national development; Representation – Championing the voices and concerns of his constituents in Parliament;
Budget Approval – Scrutinizing and approving the national budget and loan requests;
Oversight – Monitoring government operations to curb misuse of public funds and uphold accountability.
Wanda's re-nomination sets the stage for a highly anticipated contest in Bungokho Central, where infrastructure, service delivery, youth empowerment, and educational opportunities remain key priorities among voters.
As the July 16 internal elections draw near, the NRM party continues to prepare for a competitive and organized electoral process across the country, with hopes of strengthening its grip on political leadership while advancing its vision for Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
