Herbert Emmanuel Mwambu has officially joined the race to represent Budadiri County West (Sironko District) in Parliament after being nominated as a candidate in the ongoing National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries. Mwambu is seeking to secure the party flag in the upcoming internal elections, scheduled for July 16, 2025. With a clear development-focused agenda, he has pledged to spearhead a transformative campaign aimed at revitalizing the socio-economic fabric of the constituency.

Speaking after his nomination, Mwambu passionately appealed to the electorate to entrust him with the NRM party flag, assuring them of impactful representation anchored on tangible service delivery. “Vote for me so that I take the flag, and all government programs will come to our constituency. Socio-economic transformation is what I strive to achieve when elected,” Mwambu declared.

Tackling Poverty Through Income-Generating Projects

A key highlight of Mwambu’s manifesto is a commitment to fight poverty, which he notes currently affects nearly 30% of the population in Budadiri County West. “We have become a laughing stock because many people are in poverty. If we all keep quiet, it’s not right. Something has to be done,” he emphasized.

Mwambu pointed to the region’s agricultural potential as a strategic lever to uplift household incomes.

“We have coffee, which we can leverage on to get money through our coffee cooperatives. It brings money from outside the country after being sold. We can also put emphasis on cocoa growing, where 1kg goes for UGX 40,000. These are income-generating projects that can help overcome poverty in our community,” he said.

Health Sector: Lobbying for a Hospital

On health, Mwambu lamented the absence of a hospital in the constituency, which currently relies on a single Health Centre IV.

“We don’t have a hospital in our constituency. I will lobby the president to get us a hospital with adequate doctors in it,” he pledged.

Access to Clean Water

Mwambu also highlighted the dire water situation in areas such as Nalusala and neighboring communities. “People have suffered a lot due to lack of clean water. I have already intervened by putting boreholes in some places and repairing others. I will make sure everyone has access to clean water,” he promised.

Education: Seeking Global Partnerships On education, the aspiring MP painted a picture of struggling schools, with children studying under trees and in dilapidated structures.

“Our kids study in a very poor environment. We have a deficit in classrooms as our kids sit outside the classroom. I will talk to my partner friends from the international community and the Ministry of Education so that we get proper classrooms,” Mwambu stated.

He further promised to use his skills in proposal writing to attract donor funding and scholarship opportunities. “I’m a guru in writing proposals, which I will do and also lobby for scholarships for our children so that more get degrees like we did,” he added.

Mwambu's nomination comes as the NRM continues its internal candidate selection process across the country. Nominations for parliamentary, district, and city mayoral flag bearers will run until June 30, 2025. The party primaries are scheduled to be held on July 16, 2025, paving the way for the general elections in early 2026.

Mwambu's entry into the race has been received with enthusiasm by sections of the electorate, especially those keen on seeing an end to persistent development challenges in Budadiri County West. As the campaigns heat up, all eyes remain on the July 16 primaries where the NRM will determine its official standard-bearer for the constituency.
